InjuriesOuch! You're probably wondering why we'd list a
topic such as injuries when we're trying to educate you about the
process of training for and running a marathon. The reason is because
you will get injured. It is important for you to know that. And, it
is important for you to remember that. Why? Because if you are ready for
it, then you won't become too depressed when it happens to you. Now, I'm
no doctor, but I look at it like this -- injuries are your body's
response to overuse. If you go at this too fast, your body will let you
know it. And, by setting a goal as daunting as running a marathon,
you'll probably overdo it at some point. So, here are some of the most
common injuries, and the basics on how to treat them:
What To Do When Injured Basically, treat yourself
well, because you deserve it. Ice the areas in question, see your
doctor, get a massage or two, and keep to stretching and a healthy diet.
Although you'll feel frustrated because you need to take a few days off,
you can come back stronger if you let your body rest and heal. In fact,
those few days off can help heal areas that haven't even reared their
ugly heads yet, so relax, and enjoy a good book! |
